On November 17th, the American Hiking Society is hosting National Take a Hike Day – a day for all Americans to get out and celebrate our local trails!
Share you hike on social media using the hashtag, #takeahikeday!
Need another reason to get out and explore the trails? Here are a few benefits of trail-based exercise:
- Hiking and trail running can lower your risk of heart disease, improve your blood pressure and blood sugar levels, boost bone density, build strength in your hips, lower legs, and core, improve balance, and help control your weight
- Research suggests time in natural landscapes can improve your mood by combating stress, anxiety, and depression
- Spending time in the outdoors can boost creative problem-solving skills and attention span by increasing blood flow to the brain
- Trail-based exercise has much less impact to body joints than pavement-based exercise, making it more beneficial for long-term fitness goals
So what are you waiting for? Get out and enjoy the great outdoors! Delaware North wishes you a happy and safe Take a Hike Day!
