While the majority of Yellowstone visitors only witness the park’s magic during summer months, for a week in November West Yellowstone becomes bustling with visitors from across the nation.
Surprisingly, the deep snow and cold temperatures fail to deter their visits—in fact, these people come here for the winter wonderland conditions so they can stride and glide across the trails winding through the woods surrounding West Yellowstone.
Each year during Thanksgiving week, West Yellowstone and the Rendezvous trail system play host to thousands of guests during the Yellowstone Ski Festival. Cross-country skiers of all abilities and from all over flock to the trails to enjoy spectacular ski conditions, the warm sunshine, and plentiful snow.
Throughout the week, local businesses like the Freeheel & Wheel Ski and Bike shop as well as the Yellowstone Ski club host various events, clinics, and ski equipment demos open to the public. The challenging Rendezvous trails also host various races for novice to professional skiers.
